Jonathan Bäckström Quartet

The Porvoo Jazz Club will once again bring high quality Nordic jazz to the stage. Jonathan Bäckström Quartet is a Helsinki-based acoustic and improvising quartet with members from Finland and Sweden. The quartet is led by bassist/composer Jonathan Bäckström, whose aim is to explore and create music that is born in the moment. The quartet’s musical language alternates between minimalism and explosiveness. The end result is expressively powerful, with each member of the quartet making a unique contribution. The band’s debut album was released in 2024 on the Finnish We Jazz Records label and has received attention both in Finland and internationally. In addition to Bäckström, the group includes saxophonists Adele Sauros and Marcus Wärnheim and percussionist Benjamin Nylund, all active in the Nordic music scene.
